Masterton District Council is calling for tenders for a significant infrastructure upgrade on Queen Street. The project includes the replacement of the water main, reconstruction of footpaths, and resurfacing of the road between Jackson and Park Streets.
This all-in-one approach aims to minimise disruption by avoiding the need for multiple separate projects. The work is planned to start in the first half of 2026 and will proceed in stages. The full upgrade is expected to take around six months.
Why is the project happening?
The water main that runs the length of Queen Street needs to be replaced. It is old and increasingly needing expensive and disruptive repairs.
Replacing a water main is a big job, so we are taking the opportunity to combine this work with street resurfacing and replacing the brick footpaths which are uneven, slippery and causing injury to pedestrians.
The project was planned and budgeted for in the 2024/34 Long Term Plan.
