The existing wooden equipment has reached the end of its life. After 25 years, it has begun to deteriorate and could pose a health and safety risk if left in place. Renewing the equipment ensures the playground remains safe and enjoyable.

This project is being driven by the Rotary Club of Masterton South, with Council providing financial support and project management. We recognise the strong community connection to this playground and want to ensure it remains safe, fun, and fit for purpose for the next 25 years.

Many picket fence pieces include whānau names and are currently used as safety fencing around the park. Please do not remove them.

Once detailed designs are confirmed, we will know whether the fence pieces are still required. If they are not needed, we will make them available for collection once work has begun. Removing them earlier would create a safety risk.

We know this playground is a favourite for locals and visitors. While we want to keep it fun and exciting, we also need to ensure the equipment is durable and accessible. The layout will likely change.

We encourage the community to share their ideas during consultation. Detailed designs will be shared once the successful tender is selected.

Recently installed equipment will remain. This project focuses on replacing the wooden play structures that have been in place for more than 25 years and have reached the end of their life.

Once construction begins, we expect the project to take six to eight months. We will keep the community updated throughout and aim to reopen the playground ahead of the 2027–28 summer holidays.
