Our Future, Our Story – Masterton’s Vision Towards 2050 is the Development Plan for our district. It’s about working with you to guide how Masterton‑Whakaoriori grows and develops over time – shaping where we grow, how we grow, and what we prioritise so our district remains a thriving, liveable, and sustainable place for current and future generations.

The Development Plan looks at all the things that make Masterton a great place to live, work, and play. From housing, transport and community spaces to our people, our environment and our economy. It looks across our whole district - from our town centre and urban neighbourhoods to our rural areas and the coast.

Over the last six months, we have been popping up at community events, holding workshops/ wānanga, and having conversations with people from all sectors of our community.

We asked:

• What you love about Masterton - to find out what is important to you now.

• What you would change about Masterton - to identify areas of development.

You answered us, in droves. We received around 2,000 pieces of feedback - thank you to all who shared ideas. We took this feedback and identified some common themes that we want to test with you.

We have summarised what we heard below. This will form the basis of a high-level framework that will guide the development of the plan, so it’s important we get it right.

We also heard suggestions for projects and actions - we will consider these once we have tested the framework with you.
