A fresh new look for Kids Own Playground – Public Feedback open

15 April 2026

Masterton South Rotary Club, in partnership with Masterton District Council is inviting the community to share their vision for the next generation of play equipment at Kids Own Playground.

Constructed by the community more than 25 years ago, components of the wooden play structures have now reached the end of their usable life. With Rotary leading the project and Council providing support, planning is underway to shape what the playground will look like for the next generation.

Facilities and Open Spaces Manager, Ian Osland, acknowledges the strong community connection to the park and encourages people to have their say.

“All equipment has a lifespan, and we want to make sure the park remains fun, usable and safe for our community and for those who stop in while travelling. Playground designs have also developed significantly over the past 25 years, becoming more accessible and inclusive for children of all ages,” said Mr Osland.

Work is expected to begin after Waitangi Day in 2027, allowing one more summer of enjoyment before construction starts. The park will be closed while upgrades take place, with reopening planned ahead of the 2027/28 summer holidays.

“Many of our whānau across Masterton are deeply connected to this playground, with themselves or their relatives being part of the construction of our Destination Playground,” said Brian Crump, President of Masterton South Rotary Club.

“We’re excited to partner with the Masterton District Council on this project. They’ve put up the funding for the project, however as Rotary, we are also going to fundraise – any additional money we’re able to raise will add to the $1.5 million from the Council – the more money, the more play equipment for our community!” He said.

Feedback is open now, until 24th May.
