Hundreds of reasons to love Masterton

16 January 2026

Masterton District Council has so far received nearly 2,000 answers from people about what they love about Masterton, and what they would change.

The suggestions have come from a series of pop-up engagements at community events as part of the Our Future Our Story project, which aims to develop a plan for how Masterton should grow and develop over the next 25 years.

On the ‘love it’ side, answers range from parks, open spaces, friendliness, and the lack of traffic lights, while some have a desire for increased accessibility, transport connections, CBD vibrancy, and a water park. The Masterton Summit in December also generated a range of exciting ideas to increase events, revitalise the town centre, and encourage youth entrepreneurship.

Work is now underway to analyse suggestions and incorporate them into planning ideas for Masterton District that will be available for community comment in April.

Ideas are welcome through the What’s Up, Whakaoriri? platform - whatsup.mstn.govt.nz
